History

A Rich Heritage

In February of 1951 the communicants of Holy Family Church in east McKinney opened “La Escuelite” (The Little School). Under the direction of Father Jose de Jesus Vega, a Mexican priest who had been sent from the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, Holy Family began as a Latin-American nursery school created to care for small children whose parents were mainly agricultural laborers who worked each day in nearby fields.

For the past 65 years, Holy Family has continued the original mission of Father Vega and his wife, Maria Luisa Cardenas Vega.  As the first school director, Mrs. Vega wanted each student to be kindergarten-ready, healthy, happy, and active.  Through daily chapel sessions, the Vega Family kept Christian education and values at the forefront of life inside Holy Family.

Today, more than ever, we serve a diverse population. There are many children who attend Holy Family because their parents want them to be part of the wonderful culture of our school. They could go anywhere, and they choose Holy Family. Many others attend because Holy Family is one of the most affordable child care providers in the area, and we accept state and federal assistance programs. We offer scholarships to those in need, and through fundraising efforts such as this gala and the Believe Race, our scholarship fund continues to grow.

Holy Family School’s mission is to offer the highest quality childcare and learning environment for Collin County’s diverse population without financial bias.
